Type Locality and Naming
Named after the Mastavat River, Gissar Range. E.M. Golovin in 1939-1942 from the pre-middle Paleozoic metamorphic formation (Shargun Suite)
Synonym: Mastavat Suite, Маставатская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Orthogneisses, gneisses, amphibolites, developed on acidic and basic volcanic rocks, with rare layers of crystalline biotite and cordierite slates, marbles, metamorphosed jasperoids, metasiliceous-carbonate rocks (Yudalevich, Divaev et al., 1994). Thickness over 2000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Suite is mainly tectonic.
Upper contact
Suites are mainly tectonic, however, in some outcrops in the southern area of its development, the Obizarang Fm is observed to overlie the Mastavat Fm (Yudalevich et al., 1994).
Regional extent
South slope of the Gissar Range, basins of the Kyzyl-Darya, Tanhazy-Darya, Mastavat, Chiliks, Gaznov, and other rivers.
